Hemifacial Spasm
What Is Hemifacial Spasm?
Hemifacial spasm may present very similarly to Benign Essential Blepharospasm (BEB) but, instead, is usually unilateral and will affect the entire side of the face. In contrast to BEB, it may not abate with sleep. Its etiology is often related to some irritation of the facial nerve, but, like BEB, may oftentimes be unknown. Treatment for this condition is identical to BEB, unless there is suspicion of a physical irritant to the facial nerve.
